1. What is the Southern Crescent Civitan Club?

The Southern Crescent Civitan Club (SCCC) is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization serving South Atlanta, Fayette County, and surrounding areas, with a mission to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families through community programs, partnerships, and outreach.


2. What types of special needs do you support?

We support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including autism, Down syndrome, developmental delays, and related conditions. Our programs are designed to promote inclusion, support families, and empower individuals to thrive.


3. Who can join the Southern Crescent Civitan Club?

Anyone who is passionate about giving back and supporting the special needs community can join. We welcome volunteers, professionals, educators, parents, and community partners.


4. Do I have to volunteer actively to be a member?

No. While active involvement is encouraged, we understand that not everyone has the time or energy to participate regularly. You can support our mission in multiple ways, including:

  • Attending meetings when available
  • Serving on a committee (as your schedule allows)
  • Becoming a one-time or monthly donor

Every level of support makes a difference.


5. What is expected of members and volunteers?

Members are encouraged to:

  • Attend monthly virtual (Zoom) meetings
  • Participate in a committee
  • Support community service projects and events

We value flexibility, commitment, and heart for service, and we meet members where they are.


6. How often do you meet?

We host monthly Zoom membership meetings to discuss community support efforts, Civitan initiatives, fundraising, and local service impact.


7. How much are membership dues?

Membership dues are $140 annually (1/2 off for students), which directly supports our programs and services for the special needs community.


8. Where does the membership dues money go?

Membership dues fund programs and outreach efforts such as:

  • The Civitan International Research Center located at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Campus
  • Holiday gifts for families in need
  • Back-to-school supplies
  • Community service projects
  • Events and support initiatives for individuals with special needs

9. Do you partner with schools and organizations?
